Digital DJing with Traktor
Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 5:00 PM - Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 7:00 PM (EDT)
Somerville, United States
This class will explore digital DJing with Native Instruments Traktor software. It will lay out the fundamentals of DJing by teaching you the underlying principles and history behind beat-matching by ear and dropping on the one. The remainder of the class will focus on Traktors features, controls, customizations, and techniques and best practices. Material covered will include EQing, filtering, beat gridding, beat jumping, phrase mixing, harmonic mixing, looping, bass cuts (and other alternative mixing techniques), crafting a mix, and self promotion.
This course will train the student to be able to effectively prepare music, build a set, and either perform live or podcast using Native Instruments Traktor software. This course will present all of the necessary skills and provide the student with drills necessary to refine their skills and grow over time.
Basic Computer literacy and English literacy. Experience DJing with vinyl or CDJs will be helpful, but is not required.
CEMMI is exploring options for obtaining licenses of Traktor to provide on our computers, but for the moment, students should expect to provide their own laptop with Traktor software installed, as well as a pair of headphones.
Or, if you're interested in investing in a controller (though it's not necessary for this class), Traktor LE comes free with this hardware: http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=traktorleinclude
